EchoMark offers a seamless integration with Axios HQ to watermark emails communications sent to recipients in an Exchange tenant. This integration only requires mail flow rule configuration on the Exchange tenant, sharing the Axios HQ sending domains to EchoMark, and updating an SPF record for your Axios HQ sending domain.
After setting up the integration, all email sent from Axios HQ to recipients within the Exchange tenant will have watermarks. At the moment, these watermarks are limited to the text of the email body.
Here are the following steps to set up the integration:
- Contact your EchoMark representative with your Axios HQ sending domain. For example, this could be "comms.acme.com". This will need to be added to your EchoMark account setup.
- Create a new mail flow rule. Add a mail flow rule for that sender domain In the Set rule conditions page, you'll want to specify the conditions that messages must meet in order to get routed through EchoMark. Set the fields as follows:
| Name | Axios EchoMark on Receive | ||
| Apply this rule if | The sender | domain is | [use your Axios HQ sending domain, e.g. "comms.acme.com"] |
| Do the following | Redirect the message to | the following connector | EchoMark Outbound Connector |
| Except if | The message headers... | includes any of these words | 'x-personalized-for' message header includes 'recipient' |
| Or | The message properties | include the message type | 'Calendaring' |
| Or | The message headers... | matches these text patterns | 'Auto-Submitted' message header matches 'auto-generated' |
3. You can also optionally add a criteria to match on "Subject or body" to first test the integration. For example, you can add the following and only Axios emails with "#echomark" in the subject would trigger this mail flow rule.
| Apply this rule if | The sender | domain is | [use your Axios HQ sending domain, e.g. "comms.acme.com"] |
| And | The subject or body | subject or body includes any of these words | #echomark |
4. IMPORTANT! On the next page, check the box titled Stop processing more rules, and select Envelope in the Match sender address in message dropdown.
5. Press Next and then Finish to complete the creation of this rule.
6. Once the rule has finished saving, select the rule you just created from the Rules list, and from the panel that opens, enable your new rule by pressing Enable or disable rule.
7. Update your DNS SPF record for your Axios HQ domain and add "include:smtp.app.echomark.com".
For example have a TXT entry for "comms.acme.com" that has the value:
"v=spf1 include:mailgun.org include:smtp.app.echomark.com ~all"
After setting up the integration, you can run an end to end test by:
1. Sending a test Axios HQ email. Use a template newsletter with a fair amount of text. Have a small audience with yourself included.
2. Observe that the received email is watermarked with your default marking policy. If that policy includes a personalized footnote, you can observe that at the bottom of the email.
3. Take a screenshot of at least 2 paragraphs of text.
4. Begin an email message leak investigation in the EchoMark application:
5. Upload the screenshot you just took. Follow the prompts until you can "Let me select the original message".
6. Filter the list of emails. The From will be the address used in the SMTP envelope FROM, which typically set to the "bounce@comms.acme.com" for Axios HQ. This can also be found by looking for the Return-Path header on a received Axios HQ email.
7. Select the test email campaign. Observe that the leak report result is the email you received.
